Your home/native language is SO important!!!!!
The stronger the first language, the stronger the second language. You MUST continue to develop your literacy skills in your native language, I cannot tell you how important it is!!! You should read DAILY for 30 minutes in your native language. No one, (shhhh, not even me or your teachers...), is perfect in their home language; you must continue to be a learner of your own language! Here is an excellent resource for parents raising bilinguals.
If you speak Spanish as a native language, we would like to place you in Heritage Spanish classes as 9th and 10th graders. In the 11th grade you would then take Spanish 4, and 12th, Advanced Placement (AP) Spanish, where if you test with a good score, you will actually receive COLLEGE CREDIT for the class! All classes are taught by the wonderful Ms. Ballina-Llosa, who is originally from Spain.
Quality literacy skills of your first language is essential to improving your English.
