It's ok that we need help sometimes!!!
Here are some resources for LIFE to help you as you navigate life in New York.
Adult Education
- Our county provides excellent English classes and High School Equivalency classes (in English or Spanish) through BOCES. I used to teach the Spanish GED program and I might be biased, but I think it is an excellent program! The cost is only $40/year for two nights a week. You can take bus 14 to Ossining, a quick ride to class! Here is the link for more information. Registration is the first week of September.
- Your next inexpensive option is Westchester Community College, for English classes, adult education classes, or college classes! Bus 14 will drop you right by the Ossining location of WCC.
Library
- Croton Library is an excellent, FREE resource not only for books but also classes, museum passes, or just a nice place to work with large tables, internet, and printers. They even have a program with free tutors! I love studying there myself! To get a card you just need a bill proving you live in Croton and a basic ID! It is walkable from downtown Croton, just up the hill from the high school. It is also a requirement for your ELA class to have a library card. If you want help to get your card, I am very happy to take you there to get the family signed up!
Croton Based Organizations
- Croton Caring provides student backpacks each fall, holiday dinners, and can even help with food deliveries!
- St. Augustine's Episcopal Church has an amazing clothing tag sale every September!
- Neighbor's Link is in Ossining, but it provides so many opportunities for help, from employment, to English classes, to immigration law, or even help with technology! Here is their bilingual flyer.
Food
- Croton Food Pantry is open the first and third Saturday every month from 9-11 am. It's a very easy location right behind the Catholic church in Croton!
- Ossining Food Pantry is open Wednesday 6-8 pm and Thursday 10 am-noon.
Medical
- Open Door Medical is absolutely amazing, here is their website. My families usually find that the Ossining location is the easiest for them. Here is a bus map, bus 14 will take you right there!
